Six Dead, Dozens Injured as Speeding Bus Overturns in Latehar's Oursa Valley
A tragic accident in Latehar district claimed six lives and left more than two dozen passengers injured on Sunday afternoon. The speeding bus overturned at the steep valley in Oursa, under Mahuadanr police station limits.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The bus was traveling from Balrampur in Chhattisgarh. It carried over fifty passengers. The accident occurred around 2 pm. The vehicle was negotiating the difficult terrain of Oursa valley when it lost control.
Gaurav, a source, stated the bus was speeding. This proved fatal. Tyre marks on the steep road indicated the driver tried to brake hard. The driver, who was reportedly drunk, suffered critical injuries. Authorities rushed him to Rims in Ranchi for treatment.
Passengers and Emergency Response
The occupants were heading to Mahuadanr for the 'Lota Pani' ceremony. This is a Tilak ritual performed before a marriage. Following the crash, the high number of injured required immediate medical attention.
Many injured passengers went to a missionary health facility centre. Others received care at a government community health centre in Latehar and Ranchi. The remaining traveled to Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh.
SDPO Sheopujan Baheliya and his team, along with civil officials, arranged ambulances and other vehicles. They worked swiftly to transport the injured to various health centres.
Official Reaction
Chief Minister Hemant Soren took to X to address the situation. He directed the district administration to ensure proper treatment for all injured individuals. The administration is actively managing the aftermath of this devastating event.
The local police continue their investigation into the exact cause of the accident. Community members express deep sorrow over the loss of life during what should have been a celebratory journey.
