Lucknow: Sonbhadra Police solved the murder of a 12-year-old girl within two hours on Monday. According to police, a 21-year-old man strangled her after she raised an alarm over sexual assault. The girl's body was found in Myorpur on Monday evening.
Case Registration and Investigation
A case was registered under murder charges of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the body was sent for postmortem. Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma stated that Special Operations Group and surveillance units were formed to investigate the case using technical and manual inputs.
Accused Confession
Police revealed that the accused lived in the neighborhood and was a distant maternal uncle of the victim. During questioning, he confessed to sexually assaulting the girl and strangling her when she raised an alarm, said SP Verma.
Encounter and Arrest
Based on surveillance, when police cornered the accused, he opened fire on them. Police retaliated in self-defense and arrested him after an encounter. We will soon file a chargesheet and appeal to fast-track the case, added the SP.
