Navi Mumbai: NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule escaped unhurt after an SUV grazed her car on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday evening. The incident occurred near the Madap tunnel in the Khalapur police jurisdiction of Raigad district while she was returning to Mumbai from Pune.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the mishap happened after Sule's car crossed the Khalapur toll plaza and was about 29 kilometers before the Madap tunnel. The SUV, bearing registration number GJ13CF5257, grazed Sule's vehicle from the side. Sule was accompanied by her chauffeur and personal assistant; all three were unhurt.
MP Sule took to her X handle to share the experience: "While travelling from Pune to Mumbai today, I had an awful experience on the highway when vehicle GJ13CF5257 rammed into my car from the side due to reckless driving. Thankfully, everyone is safe. Incidents like these are a serious reminder that overspeeding and negligence on our roads can put countless lives at risk. I urge everyone to wear seat belts, remain alert and drive responsibly so that our highways are safer for all."
Police Action
PSI Sanjay Tilekar of Palase Highway Safety Patrol (HSP) confirmed that no complaint was lodged by Sule, but the police are conducting further investigation. Senior Inspector Sachin Pawar of Khalapur police station stated that the SUV driver, a resident of Gujarat, was returning from a picnic in Lonavala with friends. The HSP cops detained the driver and his friends at the scene.
Taking suo motu cognisance, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act against the SUV driver for rash and negligent driving causing damage to Sule's vehicle.
