Surat SOG Nabs Notorious History-Sheeter Following Viral Pistol Firing Video

In a significant crackdown, the Surat Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested a notorious history-sheeter after a video depicting him firing a pistol went viral on social media platforms. Apprehension During Alleged Crime Planning

The accused, identified as Deepak Kutekar, aged 23 and a known member of the Surya Marathi gang, was apprehended near the Viramnagar Society gate in the Chowk Bazar area. Authorities reported that he was allegedly in the process of planning a serious criminal offence at the time of his capture.

Recovery of Illegal Firearm and Criminal Intent

During the operation, police recovered an illegal pistol from Kutekar's possession. Investigations revealed that he had procured the weapon for Rs 35,000. In subsequent interrogation, Kutekar disclosed that he purchased the firearm from Uttar Pradesh in 2024.

His motive stemmed from a personal dispute with a Surat-based individual named Hitesh Solanki. Kutekar admitted to intending to use the pistol to take revenge, underscoring the grave nature of his planned actions.

Extensive Criminal Record and Legal Actions

Police records indicate that Deepak Kutekar has a long and troubling criminal history, with a total of 21 offences registered against him. These charges include serious crimes such as:

  • Attempt to murder
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Extortion

Additionally, he has been booked under the NDPS Act, GP Act, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, reflecting a pattern of diverse illegal activities.

Following the recent arrest, a new case under the Arms Act has been registered against him at the Chowk Bazaar police station. Given his persistent criminal behavior, the Surat police commissioner had previously invoked the PASA Act against Kutekar multiple times in 2021, 2022, and 2025. He was also externed from the city in 2023 as part of ongoing efforts to curb his influence.

This arrest underscores the Surat police's commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring public safety, particularly in response to viral evidence that can escalate community concerns.
