The Krishnalanka police on Friday registered a case against suspended circle inspector SSV Nagaraju, charging him with murder, and secret and long-term wrongful confinement in connection with the alleged lock-up death and disappearance of history-sheeter Gade Sai Krishna while in police custody.
Case Details
The case has been registered under sections 127(4), 127(6), and 103(1) of the BNS Act, and section 238 of the BNSS Act based on a complaint by Sai Krishna’s mother Gade Vijaya Lakshmi. She filed the complaint after meeting NTR district police commissioner SV Rajasekhara Babu late Thursday night. Subsequently, the police commissioner appointed Mahila police station ACP Daiva Prasad to probe the case.
Investigation Progress
On Friday morning, a five-member police team, led by Daiva Prasad, arrived at Sai Krishna’s residence and recorded the statements of Vijaya Lakshmi, uncle Navarang and advocate Kanaka Durga. The police team questioned the family members for about two hours.
Family's Statement
Speaking to reporters after giving their statements to police, Sai Krishna’s family said they would continue their legal battle until justice is delivered. They urged the authorities to produce Sai Krishna before the court if he is alive or hand over his mortal remains.
The family expressed gratitude to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and deputy chief minister K Pawan Kalyan for their support and intervention in the matter. They said Naidu took special interest in the case and assured them that the state govt would ensure a fair investigation.
Forensic Analysis
Further, a day after a Vijayawada court instructed the authorities concerned to preserve the CCTV footage of the Krishna Lanka police, a forensic team examined the CCTV footage records of the police station. As part of the probe, the ACP and his team are questioning police personnel who were on duty at the station on the day Sai Krishna was allegedly brought in. The team verified whether Sai Krishna was indeed taken to the station, who interacted with him, and the sequence of events that unfolded.
It was also learnt that the inquiry team has examined station records and gathered information from officers and staff members who were on duty to establish the facts surrounding the case.
Summoning of Task Force ACP
In another key development, the Daiva Prasad-led probe team summoned Task Force ACP Latha Kumari for questioning in connection with Sai Krishna’s disappearance case. Latha Kumari was summoned to Krishna Lanka PS for questioning on Friday afternoon and was grilled till 8.15pm. It is alleged that Sai Krishna was questioned by task force personnel after he was brought from Markapuram.
Political Support
Meanwhile, support continued to pour in from political leaders for Sai Krishna’s family as Vangaveeti Asha Kiran, on behalf of Radha-Ranga Mitra Mandali, met the family and extended solidarity. CPM state secretary Srinivasa Rao, along with Babu Rao and Kasinath, also visited Sai Krishna’s mother and expressed their solidarity.
