West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has raised serious concerns over an alleged breach of election protocol ahead of the counting day. He claims that officers are sharing their duty details, locations, and roles within departmental groups, which could expose them to political influence and intimidation.
Breach of Confidentiality
Adhikari emphasized that maintaining confidentiality is crucial to preserving neutrality during the counting process. The disclosure of sensitive deployment information, he argued, undermines the integrity of the electoral process and puts officers at risk.
Call for Intervention
The opposition leader has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to intervene immediately. He called for a stop to such disclosures and demanded an investigation into organizations allegedly collecting sensitive deployment information.
Adhikari warned that if left unchecked, this practice could lead to political pressure and intimidation of officials tasked with ensuring a fair count. He stressed the need for strict action against those responsible for the breach.
The allegations come amid heightened tensions in West Bengal, where the opposition has repeatedly accused the ruling party of undermining democratic processes. The ECI has yet to respond to Adhikari's demands.
