TCS Rape Accused's Multiple Passwords Hinder Probe

Nashik police officers investigating a series of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and religious coercion cases linked to the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) office in Nashik have reported that the prime accused employs distinct passwords for every file and application on his cellphone, creating significant obstacles in the investigation.

The accused, a TCS employee facing charges of rape, sexual harassment, and hurting religious sentiments, was taken by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Nashik on Friday evening to unlock his cellphone, which is secured with Face ID, according to police officials.

Forensic Assistance Sought

ACP (crime) Sandeep Mitke, who is heading the SIT, stated, "Investigators are encountering difficulties accessing key digital evidence due to the multiple layers of password protection on the accused's phone. As a result, forensic assistance has been sought to enable access to the device."

The accused is one of four suspects who were remanded in police custody until April 29 on Friday. They are facing charges of sexual harassment and religious coercion based on a complaint filed by one of their male co-workers.

Main Accused in Rape Case

Police confirmed that the individual taken to the forensic laboratory is the main accused in the rape case, which was the first of nine cases registered in connection with sexual assault and harassment complaints against TCS staffers currently under investigation. The investigation continues as authorities work to overcome the technical hurdles posed by the device's security features.
