The incident unfolded around 10 am. Ashwini's maternal uncle, Ramkisan Munde, an Army personnel, was returning home from the market when he noticed a large crowd gathered at the spot. Upon investigation, he was horrified to find his son's tiffin bag lying at the accident site.
This discovery led Munde to rush to a private hospital where the victim had been taken. There, hospital authorities informed him that his niece, Ashwini, was the one who had met with the accident. The girl had been staying with Munde in Khed for the past one month.
Driver Takes Victim to Hospital Before Case is Registered
According to police officials, the van driver, a 37-year-old man from Junnar, hit Ashwini while she was crossing the road. Following the collision, the driver himself took the injured girl to the hospital in an attempt to get her medical aid.
However, Ashwini's injuries were severe. She was later shifted to another hospital for further treatment but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Based on the complaint lodged by Ramkisan Munde, the Chakan police have registered a case against the van driver under relevant sections for causing death by negligence. "We have registered a case against him," confirmed a police officer from the Chakan station.
