A 14-year-old boy lost his life in a shocking incident of attempted motorcycle snatching that turned fatal in Varanasi on Thursday evening. The teenager, identified as Sameer Singh, was shot dead when he tried to help two men resist the armed assailants in the Rasulpur Dayalpur area.
The Fatal Encounter
According to police reports, the incident unfolded when Sameer, a Class 10 student, was on his way home. He witnessed two men in their 30s, Ramu Yadav and Abhishek Yadav, sitting on a motorcycle. Suddenly, two other men arrived on another bike and attempted to snatch Ramu's motorcycle.
As Ramu and Abhishek resisted the snatchers, Sameer stepped in to help them. In response, one of the criminals pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the trio. A bullet struck Sameer in the chest, causing him to collapse immediately. Ramu was shot in the waist, while Abhishek sustained injuries to his stomach.
Aftermath and Police Response
Villagers who rushed to the scene tried to chase the bike-borne assailants, but the criminals managed to escape. Sameer was first taken to a private hospital in Shivpur. From there, doctors referred him to the trauma centre of Sir Sunderlal (SSL) Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The two injured men, Ramu and Abhishek, are currently undergoing treatment at the same trauma centre. Their condition is reported to be critical. Deputy Commissioner of Police Akash Patel confirmed that a detailed investigation has been launched.
Investigation Underway
In response to the heinous crime, the Varanasi police have constituted three special teams to track down and arrest the accused. "We are examining CCTV footage and questioning some suspects," stated DCP Akash Patel. The police revealed that Sameer was the only child of his parents, adding profound tragedy to the loss.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over street crime and public safety. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they intensify their search for the culprits behind this brutal attack.
