On 26 June 2026, a technical snag on Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line at Cubbon Park station disrupted services, with the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) attributing the issue to a metal chain lodged in the train door guideway.
Preliminary Investigation Reveals Cause
According to a BMRCL official, the metal chain became stuck in the door guideway, preventing the doors from closing properly. This triggered an automatic safety protocol that halted the train, causing delays on the line. The chain was removed by maintenance staff, and services resumed after a brief interruption.
Impact on Commuters
The snag occurred during peak morning hours, affecting thousands of commuters traveling between stations on the Purple Line. BMRCL deployed additional trains to clear the backlog, but some passengers reported delays of up to 20 minutes. "We apologize for the inconvenience and are investigating how the chain entered the guideway," said a BMRCL spokesperson.
Safety Measures
BMRCL has initiated a review of maintenance protocols to prevent similar incidents. The corporation also urged passengers to avoid leaving loose items near train doors. The Purple Line, which runs from Baiyappanahalli to Kengeri, carries over 200,000 passengers daily.
