The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association intensified its demand for greater representation of advocates from Telangana in high court bench appointments. On Saturday, the association met Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao, submitting a representation along with a resolution adopted at its extraordinary general body meeting on June 15.
Leaders Respond Positively
According to the association, both leaders responded positively to the representation and assured their support for the issue. A delegation led by association president S Surender Reddy highlighted what it described as injustice to Telangana advocates in the appointment of high court judges and stressed the need to ensure adequate representation for advocates of Telangana origin in judicial appointments.
Delegation Urges Political Support
The delegation, which included office-bearers and executive committee members, urged the political leaders to support the demand and take up the matter with the concerned authorities. The association also requested the leaders to impress upon the authorities the need to consider eligible advocates from Telangana for elevation to the bench, stating that such representation was important for the state’s legal fraternity.
This move underscores the ongoing concerns among Telangana’s legal community regarding their underrepresentation in the state’s top court. The association remains hopeful that political backing will expedite the process of appointing more Telangana-origin judges.
