Telangana Police Wins MEA Award for Passport Verification

Hyderabad: The Telangana police have been recognized with the 'Institutional Performance Award for State Police' by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for their exceptional work in passport verification services.

Impressive Performance in 2025-26

During the 2025-26 period, Telangana police processed 7.73 lakh passport verification requests out of 7.87 lakh received, achieving a 99% processing rate. The average turnaround time was just 5 to 7 days.

VeriFast: The Technology Behind Success

According to a statement from the DGP's office, the key factor behind this achievement is VeriFast, a technology-driven passport verification system. The system was initially developed by the Cyberabad police in 2014 when CV Anand served as the commissioner. It was adopted statewide in 2015. VeriFast utilizes artificial intelligence and data-matching algorithms to cross-verify applicant details against the CCTNS database and previous passport records. This helps identify discrepancies, duplicates, or criminal antecedents effectively.

Seventh National Recognition

This award marks the seventh national recognition for Telangana police since 2015. DGP CV Anand stated that the award reflects the dedication and service spirit of the state police and will inspire the department to continue delivering better and faster services to citizens.
