Mohali police have made a significant breakthrough. They arrested the third suspect in the shocking murder of Ashok Kumari Goyal. She was the wife of former additional advocate general Krishna Kumar Goyal. This arrest brings all accused individuals in this high-profile case into police custody.
Details of the Arrest
Police officials confirmed the latest arrest. They identified the suspect as Nitin Singh. He allegedly strangled the victim with assistance from two accomplices. Authorities apprehended Nitin Singh on January 14. He hails from Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, he resides in Majre Sato Dharampur Tikar village.
Investigators revealed an interesting family connection. Nitin Singh is the son of the maternal aunt of the two previously arrested accused. This makes him a close relative of the conspirators. The police emphasized this familial link during their briefing.
Background of the Crime
The brutal crime occurred on the intervening night of December 29 and 30, 2025. It took place at the Goyal residence in Phase-1, Mohali. The victim's son-in-law, Yatiraj Singh, provided the initial statement. Based on his account, police lodged the First Information Report.
Authorities registered the case under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These included Sections 331(8), 103, 311 and 3(5). Initially, the case was filed against unknown persons. During the investigation, police identified and nominated the accused.
Previous Arrests and Recovery
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans provided details about earlier arrests. The main conspirator, Neeraj Singh, worked at the complainant's house. Police arrested him on January 1. This happened within forty-eight hours of cracking what was initially a blind murder case.
His brother, Rahul, faced arrest from Uttar Pradesh on January 7. Police have successfully recovered gold and silver ornaments looted during the crime. This recovery adds crucial evidence to the ongoing investigation.
