Raipur: A day after a 24-year-old woman's body was discovered in a resort washroom in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, police have arrested three men on charges of rape. The woman, a resident of Bhilai, was found in the washroom of a resort in Mangatta village on June 18. She was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Some individuals who had accompanied her allegedly left the resort before police arrived.
Incident Details
According to police, the woman and a female friend had attended a party with the accused in Raipur before the group reached the resort late on June 17. Investigators stated that the woman was found in an intoxicated state. The case was initially registered as a suspicious death. Based on postmortem findings and other evidence, police registered a case against Ashutosh Sahu and his associates Chhatrapal and Ghanshyam under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The three were detained for questioning and formally arrested on Saturday.
Forensic Analysis
The postmortem revealed certain marks on the victim's body. Samples and viscera have been sent for forensic analysis to determine if any intoxicating or poisonous substance was involved. Police said a total of eight persons, including residents of Bhilai and Raipur, were present at the resort at the time. Statements of all those present are being recorded, and CCTV footage from the resort is being examined. The victim's family has also sought a detailed investigation into the circumstances of her death. Police said the probe is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on scientific and forensic evidence.
