Three TVK Cadres Arrested After Illegal Banner Injures Retired Employee in Puducherry

Police in Puducherry have arrested three cadres of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party. The arrests followed a serious incident where an illegally erected banner collapsed on a retired state transport corporation employee.

Incident Details at Ariyankippam

The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Ariyankippam area. K Dhanasekaran, a 64-year-old retired employee, was returning home on his two-wheeler. A large banner, put up by the TVK cadres without government permission, suddenly fell on him.

This banner was promoting the upcoming film 'Jana Nayagan' by TVK founder Vijay. The impact caused Dhanasekaran to lose his balance. He fell into an open drain beside the road.

Severe Injuries and Hospitalization

Dhanasekaran sustained severe head injuries from the fall. Alert passersby quickly rescued him from the drain. They rushed him to a nearby primary health centre for immediate first aid.

Due to the seriousness of his injuries, doctors referred him to the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital. There, he was admitted directly to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for critical care.

Later, medical authorities shifted Dhanasekaran to a private hospital in Chennai for specialized treatment. His condition remains a concern for his family and the investigating police team.

Police Action and Legal Charges

Puducherry police acted swiftly on the case. They identified and arrested three TVK cadres involved in erecting the dangerous banner. The arrested individuals are Karthik, Arun, and Saran.

Police have booked the trio under multiple sections of the law:

  • Sections 292 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
  • Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act
  • Section 6 of the Pondicherry Open Place Prevention of Disfigurement Act

These charges highlight the illegal nature of the banner erection and the resulting harm to public safety.

Ongoing Investigation

The police investigation continues actively. Authorities are now searching for seven other individuals connected to this case. They believe these persons may have assisted in the banner installation or have relevant information.

This incident underscores the dangers of illegal hoardings and banners in public spaces. It also raises questions about enforcement of regulations regarding political and promotional displays in Puducherry.
