Tiruchanoor SI Transferred for Hushing Up Fatal Accident
Tirupati: Tiruchanoor Station House Officer (SI) Aruna has been transferred to vacancy reserve (VR) on charges of attempting to cover up an accident case in which a 16-year-old minor boy was killed near RK Kalyana Mandapam junction five days ago.
According to local residents, illegal sand quarrying and smuggling along the Swarnamukhi river, combined with over-speeding and reckless driving by illegal water tankers and private bus operators, have become rampant. This has led to frequent fatal road accidents in and around Tiruchanoor, as revenue and law enforcement agencies have completely ignored road safety measures.
A resident of Vaishnavi Nagar noted that there is no safety for pilgrims visiting Tiruchanoor or for thousands of students studying at corporate and local schools. The tri-junction near RK Kalyana Mandapam has become a blind spot, resulting in frequent fatal mishaps.
Five days ago, on June 15, 16-year-old Althuru Shashank, who had gone out to buy medicines for his sick grandfather, was run over and killed by a sand-laden tractor near RK Kalyana Mandapam junction.
While the devastated parents were still coming to terms with Shashank's tragic death, the sand mafia gang allegedly approached the minor boy's family for a private settlement to hush up the case. It was also alleged that SI Aruna pledged support to the accused and tried to cover up the incident. According to allegations, SI Aruna reportedly attempted to swap the accused and help the real culprit escape legal consequences.
Taking serious note of the allegations against Tiruchanoor SI, Tirupati SP L Subbarayudu ordered an internal inquiry into the matter. After the allegations were proven true, she was immediately transferred to vacancy reserve.
Locals have appealed to the police department to take serious note of the recent accident and initiate stringent measures to control illegal sand, water tankers, and private bus menace in Tiruchanoor. They also urged the authorities to contemplate long-term measures to prevent road accidents in the area.
