Bhagalpur: The governor-cum-chancellor of universities, Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain, has ordered the immediate cancellation of appointments of 70 guest faculty members at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) following findings of gross irregularities and violations of statutory norms.
In a communiqué dated June 13, 2026, the additional secretary to the governor-cum-chancellor directed the TMBU vice-chancellor to scrap the appointments and identify officials involved in the selection process. The order also mandated fixing accountability and initiating legal action against those found responsible for the irregularities.
The directive follows an inquiry report submitted by a TMBU-appointed committee on May 4, 2026, which probed allegations of irregularities in the appointment of guest faculty in 2025. The report was forwarded to the chancellor by the university registrar.
According to university sources, 70 guest faculty members were appointed in April 2025 against an advertised 148 posts across 17 departments. Complaints by a section of applicants to the governor-cum-chancellor, the chief minister, and the education minister had triggered the inquiry.
Based on the findings, the chancellor has now ordered the appointments scrapped and directed the university to take immediate action against officials responsible for violating statutory norms.
