A tragic drowning incident in a Hyderabad gated community has resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy and led to a police case against the residential complex's management. The heartbreaking event occurred on Sunday morning in the Vertex Prime Gated Community located in Hydernagar.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victim, identified as Arjun Kumar, was playing within the society premises around 9:30 am. According to the KPHB police, the child accidentally slipped and fell into the residential swimming pool. At the time, Arjun's parents were out of town for the holidays and had left him at his grandparents' house in Chinthal.
A senior police officer explained the circumstances that led to the oversight. "The child's grandmother had gone to a nearby market, while the grandfather, who was at home, assumed the boy was with her. This confusion meant no one noticed Arjun moving around the premises or his fall into the pool," the officer stated.
Delayed Discovery and Failed Rescue
The incident remained unnoticed for a significant period, during which the child remained submerged in the water. Residents later spotted Arjun in the pool and immediately raised an alarm. Family members rushed the boy to a private hospital in Nizampet.
Doctors at the hospital performed emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in a desperate attempt to revive him. However, their efforts were unsuccessful, and the young child was declared dead.
Allegations of Negligence and Police Action
The grieving parents have alleged serious negligence on the part of the apartment management. They claim that no caretakers or security personnel were stationed near the swimming pool at the time of the incident. Furthermore, they expressed anguish over the absence of CCTV monitoring staff and a general lack of safety measures and supervision within the complex.
In response, the KPHB police have registered a formal case against the society's management and its security staff. The charges have been filed under Section 106 (causing death by rash or negligent acts) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the child's death.
This incident has raised urgent questions about safety protocols, especially concerning children, in residential complexes across Indian cities. It highlights the critical need for vigilant supervision and robust safety measures around common amenities like swimming pools.
