Krushna Kandi, a 25-year-old resident of Gadarupasa in Puri district, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the altercation. He was promptly shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. Police reports indicate that Kandi, who was wanted in connection with the February 1 murder on NH-316 near Uttara, attempted to flee on his motorcycle after spotting police near the Pipili-Puri bypass around 8 pm.
When officers gave chase, Kandi allegedly opened fire at the police personnel. In response, the police retaliated with controlled firing, successfully injuring him in the left leg.
