Tripura Youth Congress Seeks Action Against CRPF Officer for Alleged Assault
Tripura Youth Congress Seeks Action Against CRPF Officer

A delegation of Tripura Youth Congress (TYC) activists, led by president Neel Kamal Saha, met the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) on Friday to demand action against an assistant commandant of the CRPF. The complaint stems from an incident earlier this week where the officer allegedly insulted Congress protesters during a demonstration.

Allegations Against CRPF Officer

The activists have called for action against CRPF officer Ram Kumar, who is accused of beating and injuring 12 TYC members. The injuries occurred during a peaceful protest against the NEET question paper leak, held in front of the chief minister's residence.

Details of the Protest

Neel Kamal Saha recounted that on June 15, a large group of TYC and NSUI activists participated in a rally protesting the NEET exam paper leak. The rally demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The activists were peacefully raising slogans in front of the chief minister's residence.

However, state police used water cannons and resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the rally, despite no provocation from the protesters. Saha expressed dismay over the actions of CRPF jawans, led by Assistant Commandant Ram Kumar, who allegedly lathi-charged the peaceful rallyists and verbally abused women present at the scene.

Response from Congress Leadership

In response to the CRPF's actions, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Asish Kumar Saha and sitting MLA and CWC member Sudip Roybarman met with the CRPF Inspector General. They condemned the unprovoked assault and the abusive language used against the peaceful TYC and NSUI activists.
