The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has formally lodged a complaint with the Tirupati district police regarding a serious security breach involving the gunman of TDP legislator Koneti Adimoolam at the Sri Veda Narayana Swamy temple in Nagalapuram, located approximately 64 kilometers from Tirupati.
Security Lapse at Temple
According to TTD vigilance staff, the gunman attempted to enter the temple complex while carrying his weapon, which is strictly prohibited within temple premises. The security personnel initially restrained him, citing the absolute ban on arms. However, due to the absence of a safe deposit mechanism at the temple, the gunman could neither abandon his weapon nor store it securely. As a result, he remained at the entrance while the MLA proceeded inside for darshan.
Gunman Forces Entry
The situation escalated when the MLA completed his visit and reached the Aseervachana Mandapam. At that point, the gunman, identified as Nagoor, forcibly entered the temple complex with his weapon, despite desperate attempts by TTD security staff to prevent him. This act displayed utter disregard for temple security protocols.
TTD Takes Action
Taking serious note of the incident, TTD authorities lodged a formal complaint with the Tirupati district police administration, seeking appropriate disciplinary action against the gunman. Tirupati Superintendent of Police L Subbarayudu confirmed that the gunman has been withdrawn and repatriated to his parent department. He added, "An enquiry has been ordered into the episode, and the Armed Reserve DSP will head the enquiry."
Background and Context
The Sri Veda Narayana Swamy temple is a significant religious site, and strict security measures are in place to ensure the safety of devotees. The prohibition on weapons is a standard practice across temples managed by TTD. This incident highlights the challenges faced by security personnel in enforcing such rules, especially when dealing with individuals accompanying VIPs.
The TTD's swift action underscores its commitment to maintaining security and discipline within temple premises. The outcome of the enquiry will determine further steps, including potential penalties for the gunman.
