The Dimapur commissionerate of police has arrested two individuals on charges of abducting and extorting a local businessman, according to an official release on Friday.
Details of the Incident
An FIR was lodged by Ruhon Das, a resident of Sematilla in Dimapur, on April 21. According to the complaint, Das was returning home after closing his shop at Hongkong Market around 7 pm on April 20 when two unidentified persons followed him near Murgipatti. The accused forcibly took him towards the highway, seized his mobile phone, and compelled him to disclose his Google Pay password. They then withdrew Rs 6,000 from his account at a petrol pump in Ghorapatti.
The victim was later released near Vishal Mega Mart, and the suspects fled the scene.
Arrest of the Accused
The accused have been identified as M Stephen Yanthan and Chumbenthung Yanthan. They were taken into custody following an investigation by the Dimapur police.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Further investigation is underway to determine if the duo is involved in similar crimes.
