Police in Bokaro have made a breakthrough in a shocking case, arresting two individuals for the alleged brutal murder of an elderly couple in their own home. The incident, which has sent ripples through the local community, occurred on December 1 in the Joshi Colony area.
The Grisly Crime and Swift Arrests
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh, the accused have been identified as Om Prakash Kumar and Lalchand Kumar. The police moved swiftly, taking the duo into custody on Thursday. The investigation revealed that the murder was not premeditated but an act of sudden, drunken rage stemming from a long-standing rivalry.
A Deadly Rivalry Over Tea Customers
The roots of this tragedy lay in a bitter business dispute. The victims, Mahavir Sao (67) and his wife Kaushalya Devi (63), ran a tea stall in front of their residence in Joshi Colony. Their stall happened to be situated directly opposite another tea stall operated by one of the accused, Om Prakash Kumar.
SP Singh stated that frequent arguments were reported between the two parties over customers. It is alleged that Kaushalya Devi would often attract customers away from Kumar's stall, leading to regular altercations and building deep-seated resentment.
The Night of Horror: A Drunken Attack
On the fateful night of December 1, the situation reached a violent climax. Both accused were allegedly in an inebriated state. Fueled by alcohol and anger, they went to the elderly couple's residence located behind their tea stall.
In a fit of rage, the duo first struck Mahavir and Kaushalya on their heads with a brick, rendering them unconscious. Not stopping there, they then proceeded to slash the couple's throats and stab them repeatedly, ensuring their death.
Mohammad Khurshid Alam, the officer in-charge of Harla police station, confirmed the recovery of crucial evidence. The police have seized the murder weapon—the brick and a knife—along with the blood-stained clothes worn by Om Prakash and Lalchand during the attack.
Broader Implications and Community Shock
Further investigations shed light on the accused's activities. Besides running the tea stall, Om Prakash was also involved in an illegal parking business in the locality. The brutal nature of the crime, targeting a defenseless elderly couple in their home, has left the Joshi Colony community in a state of fear and disbelief.
The Bokaro police's prompt action in solving the case has brought a measure of relief, but the incident underscores how petty business disputes, exacerbated by alcohol, can escalate into unimaginable violence. The case is now being prepared for a legal trial where the accused will face charges of murder.
