Two arrested, three juveniles held for Chatra abduction

Chatra: Two men were arrested and three juveniles detained on Saturday for allegedly abducting six villagers from Tutilawa in Chatra district on June 18, police said. All the villagers were rescued.

Addressing a news conference at the SP’s office on Saturday, Simaria SDPO Nagargoje Shubham Bhausaheb said some armed criminals kidnapped the villagers on June 18 and later contacted their families posing as Maoists, demanding a ransom of Rs 1 lakh. After receiving information on June 19, a special police team was formed under the direction of Chatra SP Animesh Naithany. Acting on technical inputs, local intelligence, and sources, raids were conducted, and the five individuals were apprehended after they fired in the air to escape and police retaliated in self-defense.

Details of the Accused

The accused were identified as Ramesh Ganjhu and Satish Kumar Ganjhu, both aged around 24, while three minors aged around 16 were detained. Another accused remains absconding, and raids are ongoing to apprehend him. Police stated that the accused posed as Maoists to instill fear and extort money. “We are also probing whether they have any direct or indirect links with extremist organizations,” the SDPO said.

Weapons and cartridges allegedly used in the crime were recovered. The accused were produced before a court, while the minors were sent to the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings.
