Two Charged with Culpable Homicide in Ludhiana Drug Death

Ludhiana police have charged two men with culpable homicide two months after their 27-year-old friend died of a suspected drug overdose. The Division Number 2 police registered a first-information report (FIR) against Vikas, alias Marua, and Manish Kumar following a complaint by Karamjit Kaur, the sister of the deceased, Harsharan Singh. The family alleges that the two men deliberately administered a fatal narcotic overdose to her brother.

Victim Went Missing in April

Harsharan Singh went missing on April 23, prompting his family to file a missing person report after an unsuccessful search. His body was later found near Cheema Chowk. ACP (central) Anil Bhanot stated that while the official cause of death awaits a pending toxicology report, investigators have secured critical closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

CCTV Evidence Key to Charges

The video shows Harsharan Singh walking toward a location with the two suspects, who are later seen returning alone. Based on this surveillance evidence, police charged both suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide and acting with common intention. The case highlights the role of digital evidence in building a prosecution despite the absence of a final toxicology report.

According to ACP Bhanot, the investigation is ongoing and the toxicology report is expected to confirm the presence of narcotics in the victim's system. The suspects remain in custody as the legal process proceeds.
