A devastating road accident near the Mukkad bypass in Kavanad, Kollam, resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Sunday night. The incident occurred when a motorcycle, reportedly out of control, struck two pedestrians walking along the roadside.
The Fatal Collision and Immediate Aftermath
According to details provided by the Sakthikulangara police, the accident took place around 7:30 PM. The motorcycle, ridden by Anoop Kumar (33) of Ramankulangara, lost control and crashed into Gobinda Das (41), a migrant worker from West Bengal, and his 10-year-old son Jethan. The force of the impact threw both father and son onto the road.
Immediately following the initial collision, the speeding motorcycle rammed into a nearby electric post. This secondary crash caused Kumar to sustain severe head injuries. Both Kumar and Das were rushed to the Kollam District Hospital, but their injuries proved fatal.
Hospital Tensions and Ongoing Investigation
The tragedy took a contentious turn at the hospital. A dispute erupted when the medical staff prevented Kumar's friends from entering the emergency ward. Due to the escalating tension, Kumar's friends moved him to a private hospital, where his death was officially confirmed.
The young boy, Jethan, who suffered critical injuries in the accident, is currently undergoing treatment. The police have registered a case and initiated a detailed probe into the circumstances leading to the crash. Following the mandatory autopsy, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their respective relatives.

This incident has once again highlighted the critical issue of road safety in the region. The loss of Anoop Kumar and Gobinda Das has left two families shattered and the local community in Kavanad in a state of grief.
