In a significant crackdown on narcotics, police in Arunachal Pradesh have apprehended two individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of heroin with an estimated street value of one lakh rupees. The operation was carried out in the Nirjuli area on Saturday based on specific intelligence inputs.

Police Operation Based on Reliable Intelligence

Acting on a tip-off about heroin possession and peddling in Nirjuli Village-I, a dedicated police team sprang into action. The team was led by Inspector Tadu Hassang, the officer-in-charge of Nirjuli Police Station, and operated under the direct supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo. The strategic operation was coordinated to target the illicit drug trade in the region.

Arrests and Seizure Details

The police action first led to the arrest of Kara Jukap (26), a resident of Deb village in Papum Pare district. Upon his capture, officers recovered four vials of heroin from his possession. Following interrogation, Jukap provided information that led investigators to another suspect.

This information resulted in the subsequent arrest of Tana Rebia (27), who hails from Kheel village, also in Papum Pare district. A search of Rebia yielded a soap case that was found to contain heroin. The total narcotics seized from both individuals amounted to 19.23 grams of heroin.

Legal Action and Official Statement

Confirming the details, Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega stated that the recovered drugs have a significant value in the local illicit market. The police have officially registered a case against the accused under the stringent Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Nirjuli Police Station. This section pertains to the possession of commercial quantities of narcotics and carries severe penalties.
