Two Arrested in Targeted Operation

The Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two members of an alleged extortion gang that had been threatening traders and shopkeepers for money. The police operation led to the capture of Sukhdev Singh and another accomplice, while three other members remain at large. Harchand Singh Sandhu, SHO of Chatiwind police station, confirmed that the arrests were made during a targeted operation and that the suspects are being interrogated to locate the remaining gang members and uncover the full scope of their activities.

Mobile Phone Recovered, Gang's Modus Operandi Revealed

The police also recovered a mobile phone allegedly used by the accused to make extortion calls. Preliminary investigations indicate that the gang had been targeting businessmen and traders in the area for an extended period. According to SHO Sandhu, the accused would demand protection money over phone calls and threaten to harm victims and their family members if they refused to pay. To instill fear, the gang is also accused of opening fire outside shops, homes, and business establishments.

Three Accomplices Still Absconding

The three absconding members have been identified as Vishal, Shamsher Singh, and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy. Investigators suspect that one of the fugitives may be armed, prompting the police to intensify search operations. Raids are ongoing to apprehend them. The arrested accused have been produced before a court and sent to police custody for further questioning.

Police Investigating Extent of Criminal Network

The police are now examining the number of traders targeted by the gang and whether the accused were involved in other extortion and firing incidents. SHO Sandhu stated that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused and dismantle the entire network.
