In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two prime suspects in the chilling murder of a businessman who was shot a staggering 69 times in South Delhi's Aya Nagar area last November. The arrest came after a brief exchange of fire in Dwarka.
Dramatic Arrest After Exchange of Fire
The two accused men were spotted roaming in the Dwarka area. When police teams, acting on intelligence, asked them to surrender, the suspects allegedly opened fire. The police retaliated, resulting in both men sustaining gunshot wounds to their legs. One police officer had a narrow escape thanks to his bulletproof jacket. Following the encounter, the police seized two pistols, fourteen live cartridges, and one stolen motorcycle.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kamal Adhana (41), a resident of Tigaon in Faridabad, and his associate Narender alias Nittu (39), from Bahadarpur in Haryana. Police records paint a picture of hardened criminals: Adhana is a key conspirator allegedly involved in seven previous criminal cases, while Narender, identified as one of the main shooters, has a staggering 21 cases against his name.
Revenge Motive Behind Brutal Killing
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Surendra Kumar stated that the murder of dairy businessman Ratan Lohiya on November 30 was an act of revenge, intricately linked to gang rivalries and an earlier killing. He explained that in May of last year, another businessman, Arun Lohiya, was murdered near Chhatarpur metro station over a long-standing property dispute. Ratan Lohiya's son, Deepak, was arrested as the main suspect in that case.
The connection is crucial. Kamal Adhana is the uncle of the murdered Arun Lohiya and a key member of the Rithodi Bhati gang run by Randeep Bhati, who is currently lodged in Mandoli Jail in connection with the murder of Samajwadi Party's Chaman Bhati. Narender, on the other hand, is a shooter of the rival Neeraj-Faridpuria gang. Initial investigations had already pointed to the involvement of members from these two gangs.
Gang War Nexus Unraveled
The arrest, coordinated by Special Commissioner of Police Anil Shukla, in-charge of the Crime Branch, has helped unravel the complex web of gang rivalry and revenge. The brutal nature of the crime—69 gunshots—signals a severe message within the criminal underworld. The police are now probing deeper into the exact sequence of events and whether more individuals were involved in the planning and execution of the murder.
This case highlights the ongoing gang-related violence in the National Capital Region and the police's continued efforts to crack down on such organized crime. The investigation remains active as authorities look to build a strong legal case against the arrested accused and explore further links.
