In a significant development, the Bengaluru Police have made two additional arrests in connection with a disturbing cyber harassment case targeting popular Kannada actor Darshan's wife, Vijayalakshmi. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths took the accused into custody on Sunday.
New Accused Identified and Arrested
The latest individuals apprehended have been identified as Prashant Talwar, a 23-year-old auditor from Yalwal in Dharwad, and Ningaraj Gulappa Talawar, also 23, who works as a fuel station manager from Keshvapur in Hubballi. According to police officials, the duo will be presented before a court on Monday to face legal proceedings.
Background of the Cyber Harassment Case
This case originated when Vijayalakshmi filed a formal complaint on December 24 at the Cyber Crime Police Station located within the city police commissioner's office. In her complaint, she alleged that several unknown individuals were using social media platforms to target her and her family with a barrage of obscene, derogatory comments and abusive messages.
The investigation gained momentum last week when the police made the first arrests. They had taken into custody Nitin, a techie from Davanagere, and Chandru, an auto driver from Chikkabanavara. Both these previously arrested accused are currently in judicial custody at the Bengaluru Central Prison, awaiting the next stages of their trial.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
The arrests of Prashant Talwar and Ningaraj Talawar mark a crucial step forward for the Central Crime Branch team. Their detention indicates that the police are actively tracing the digital footprints left by the perpetrators who engaged in the online abuse. The case highlights the increasing vigilance of law enforcement against cybercrime and online harassment, especially when it involves public figures and their families.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing all individuals involved in creating and spreading the malicious content. The police are likely continuing their probe to determine if more people were part of this coordinated online attack against Vijayalakshmi.
This incident underscores the serious consequences of misusing social media. The swift action by the Bengaluru Police serves as a stern warning that posting derogatory and abusive content online is a punishable offence and can lead to arrest and prosecution.
