UP Board Topper Gang-Raped in Kanpur, Two Arrested

A 16-year-old student, who secured first position in the recently declared UP Board Class X results, was allegedly gang-raped after being held hostage by her friend and his associate in the Kidwai Nagar area, police said on Saturday.

Police registered a case based on the written complaint of the survivor’s brother, conducted a medical examination, and arrested both accused within a day. The minor accused has been sent to the Child Observation Home in Etawah, while his 19-year-old associate has been sent to jail.

According to the victim’s family, the girl went missing from her home around 2:30 am on Wednesday. Despite extensive searches and inquiries with relatives and friends, they could not trace her. She returned home around 11:30 pm on Thursday and narrated the ordeal to her family.

The survivor alleged that her 16-year-old friend, who had failed the UP Board exams, took her to the house of his 19-year-old associate in the same locality, where she was held hostage. She claimed both accused gang-raped her repeatedly and threatened to kill her and her family if she reported the incident.

Kidwai Nagar police station in-charge Ashok Dubey said a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including forcible rape after holding hostage, on Saturday. The police acted swiftly, arresting both accused and ensuring the survivor’s medical examination.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, especially as the survivor was a high achiever academically. She had secured 70% marks in the UP Board Class X examinations, topping her school. The accused friend, also 16, had failed the same exams.

Police have assured that the investigation is ongoing and all necessary legal steps will be taken to ensure justice for the survivor. The case highlights the vulnerability of young students and the need for stricter measures to prevent such crimes.
