Vadodara: Drug Courier Breaks Leg Fleeing Police, Heroin Worth Rs 48 Lakh Seized
Vadodara: Man with Rs 48L heroin breaks leg fleeing cops

In a dramatic midnight operation at Vadodara railway station, a suspected drug courier attempting to flee from the police suffered a broken leg and was subsequently arrested with a large consignment of heroin. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, leading to the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 48 lakh.

The Midnight Chase on Railway Tracks

Acting on a specific intelligence tip about a drug courier's expected arrival around midnight on Thursday, personnel from the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of Gujarat Police had set up a vigil at the station. The police had a description of the suspect. When a man matching that description alighted from a train at Platform 1, he spotted the officers and immediately bolted.

In a desperate bid to escape, the suspect began sprinting along the railway tracks towards Platform 6. The darkness of the night allowed him to momentarily disappear from the police's sight. However, using the flashlights from their mobile phones, the SMC sleuths conducted a search and discovered the man hiding in a pit beside the tracks.

Apprehension and Discovery of Injury

The police team pulled the individual out of the pit and apprehended him. It was then that they realized he had sustained an injury during his frantic escape. The suspect had broken his leg after falling into the pit where he was hiding. He was identified as Amrik Singh Malhi (37), a resident of the Chhani Jakatnaka area in Vadodara.

Upon searching his bag, the officials made a significant discovery. They allegedly found 239.94 grams of heroin, a contraband with an estimated street value of around Rs 48 lakh. Given his injury, Malhi was first taken to SSG Hospital (SSGH) for necessary medical treatment, and his family was informed about the situation.

Interrogation and Ongoing Investigation

During interrogation following his medical aid, Amrik Singh Malhi reportedly provided crucial information to the police. He revealed that the supplier of the seized heroin was one Nishan Singh from Bathinda in Punjab. Based on this lead, the SMC officials are now actively gathering more intelligence about the alleged supplier to further crack down on the drug network.

After completing all necessary legal procedures under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a formal offence regarding the drug seizure was registered on Friday night. The case highlights the continued vigilance of Gujarat Police against the narcotics trade in the region.
