A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Varanasi, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her own husband. The incident occurred on Sunday in Kaithor village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Cholapur police station.
Discovery by a Deaf-Mute Man
The grim discovery was made in the morning by Sonu Yadav, a deaf-mute resident of nearby Rampur. Sonu had gone to collect wood from a garden when he stumbled upon a horrifying sight near some bushes. He saw a woman's foot and her saree. Terrified, Sonu rushed back to the village and alerted other villagers, who then accompanied him back to the spot.
The villagers immediately informed the Cholapur police. Station in-charge Deepak Kumar swiftly reached the crime scene. A full-scale investigation was launched, with a forensic team and a dog squad deployed to the location.
Brutal Details and Evidence Uncovered
The investigation revealed the sheer brutality of the crime. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Varuna, Neetu Katyayan stated that the victim's head and torso were brutally crushed with a brick, likely in an attempt to prevent identification. Wound marks were also found on her neck.
Key pieces of evidence were found near the body, including a slipper, a blood-stained brick, and a toy. The police dog squad led officials about 100 metres from the scene towards the Niyar Danganj road.
Identifying the victim proved challenging due to the condition of the body. However, police were able to identify her as Lakshmi Mishra with the help of a tattoo on her hand that had the letters 'PL' and 'GP' inscribed. This identification revealed she was the wife of Pradeep Mishra.
Husband Confesses and is Arrested
The police quickly zeroed in on the husband. During questioning, Pradeep Mishra confessed to the murder. He told the police that he was fed up with his wife's actions, alleging that she had relations with someone else and frequently talked on her mobile phone. Claiming to be driven by this, he carried out the horrific act.
Pradeep Mishra was arrested on Sunday night itself. Senior police officials, including ADCP Neetu Katyayan, ACP Sarnath Vidush Saxena, and additional police commissioner (crime) Rajesh Kumar Singh, were actively involved, gathering information from villagers and inspecting the scene.
The body of Lakshmi Mishra was sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death as the legal process against the accused husband begins.
