Nearly six weeks after a man was allegedly assaulted in Singrauli, police swung into action following a viral video of the incident, arresting two accused and launching a hunt for a third suspect. The arrests come after the video, which surfaced on social media on May 1, showed a man being brutally beaten by a group in the Nawanagar area.

Details of the Incident

Police traced the victim, a 40-year-old resident of Ghoroulikala, who recounted the events of March 20. He stated that he had gone near the Nigahi project railway track with his wife to collect firewood when the accused confronted him. Suspecting him of theft, they allegedly assaulted him with a hockey stick and hurled caste-based abuses at him.

Legal Action Taken

Based on the victim's complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. During the investigation, two accused — Makardhwaj Singh and Pradeep Kumar Patel — were arrested. Both are linked to a private security setup in the area.

Investigators also seized a hockey stick that was allegedly used in the assault, as well as a firearm that was visible in the viral clip. The accused were produced before a court and sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace Vineet Pandey, who was also seen in the video allegedly instigating the attack.
