Wedding Brawl: Groom's Uncle Stabbed, Dies in Varanasi

A 52-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a wedding ceremony in Marui village, located in the Jakkhini locality under Rajatalab police station area, on Wednesday night. The incident occurred when a dispute at the wedding escalated into an altercation, resulting in the groom's uncle being attacked by the bride's brother.

Incident Details

The wedding of Himanshu Ram to Rekha Devi, a resident of Bagaha, Mirzapur, was being held at the groom's residence. During the garlanding ceremony, a minor disagreement between some members of the bride's side sparked a quarrel, which quickly turned into a violent brawl.

Bahadur Ram, the groom's uncle, intervened in an attempt to calm the situation. However, he was later discovered lying wounded near the house with a sharp-object injury to his chest.

Medical Response and Death

Police from Rajatalab station arrived at the scene and rushed Bahadur Ram to the Jakkhini Community Health Center for treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to the divisional hospital, where doctors declared him dead on Thursday morning.

Legal Action

Following a complaint from Bahadur Ram's family, police initially registered a case of attempted murder against four named individuals on Wednesday night. After the victim's death, the charges were upgraded to murder. One of the accused has been arrested by Rajatalab police, while efforts are underway to apprehend the three remaining suspects who are currently absconding.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gomti/Crime) Neetu Kadyan visited the scene of the incident, gathered information from family members about the sequence of events, and issued directives for the immediate arrest of the fugitives.
