The tragic sequence of events unfolded in Kallambalam, Varkala. According to police reports, the crisis originated from a loan taken by the woman's mother. A gang, allegedly led by a man named Sunil from Kallambalam, began intimidating the mother for repayment. The harassment soon escalated dangerously.
The gang then reportedly tracked down the woman's fiancé, who lives in Kollam. At his residence, they issued explicit death threats, spreading panic within his family. Fearing for their safety, the fiancé's family made the painful decision to withdraw from the marriage, which was scheduled for January 1.
A Desperate Act Amidst Distress
Crushed by the sudden collapse of her wedding plans and overwhelmed by the ongoing threats against her family, the woman saw no way out. Distraught, she attempted to take her own life on Thursday.
She was rushed to a private hospital in Varkala, where she remains in serious condition. In her statement to the authorities, the woman alleged that the gang had threatened to kill her entire family if the borrowed money was not returned.
