Woman Dies After Touching Electrified Fence in Pilibhit

A tragic incident occurred in Khajuria Nabiram village in Pilibhit district on Tuesday morning, where a 35-year-old woman, Anita Devi, lost her life after accidentally coming into contact with an electrified fence surrounding a maize field. The field belonged to former village head Shiv Prasad.

Upon the incident, Anita was immediately rushed to a community health centre, but she was declared dead on arrival. In a state of denial, her family members and local villagers resorted to a folk belief, burying her neck-deep in sand in an attempt to restore her life. After nearly 40 minutes without any signs of revival, the police intervened and took her body for a post-mortem examination.

Family Blames Overflowing Septic Tank

Anita's husband, Beche Lal, revealed that their family had a toilet constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission, but due to an overflowing septic tank, they were compelled to resort to open defecation. He alleged that the solar fencing around the field had been illegally connected to electricity to deter stray animals, which led to the fatal accident.

Police Investigation Underway

Station House Officer (SHO) Siddhant Sharma stated that legal action would be taken following a thorough investigation. He confirmed that an FIR would be registered once the family files a formal complaint. The authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the illegal electrification of the fence.

This incident highlights the dangers of unauthorized electrical installations and the persistence of superstitious practices in rural areas. The police have urged the public to report any such hazards to prevent future tragedies.
