Nashik: A 23-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in Rahata taluka of Ahilyanagar district, Maharashtra, after enduring sustained harassment from her husband and in-laws over a financial demand, police reported on Wednesday.
Incident Details
The deceased, identified as Priya Shubham Dhage, reportedly jumped into a well in Ekrukhe village on Tuesday night. According to police, she had faced harassment since her marriage two years ago, with the conflict centering on a demand for Rs 4 lakh from her parents to fund the construction of the in-laws' house.
Police Action and Arrests
Following a complaint filed by the victim's parents alleging continuous physical and mental abuse, and public outrage in the village, police arrested three individuals. The accused include her husband Shubham Dhage, father-in-law Rajendra Dhage, and mother-in-law Pratibha Dhage, all residents of Kohale village.
Police stated, "All three accused have been arrested under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 108 - abetment of suicide."
Background of Harassment
The victim's parents' FIR detailed that Priya was subjected to continuous harassment for two years. The complaint noted, "The conflict reportedly stemmed from a demand for money, which her husband and in-laws insisted she bring from her parents to fund their house construction."
The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with demands for strict action against those responsible for such harassment.
