A 28-year-old woman died by suicide in her home in Delhi's Dwarka area on Wednesday. In a video recorded before her death, she blamed her husband and in-laws for constant harassment and dowry demands. The Incident
The woman, identified as Priya Sharma, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom. Her husband, Rohit Sharma, and his parents were present in the house at the time. Police Investigation
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse confirmed that a case has been registered under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. "We have taken the video into custody and are questioning the accused. The post-mortem is underway," he said. The couple had no children.
Priya's brother, Vikas, alleged that the harassment began soon after the wedding. "They demanded a car and cash, which my father couldn't afford. Priya was under constant pressure," he stated. The family had previously filed a complaint with the local women's cell, but no action was taken.
