Police have registered a case against the in-laws of a 24-year-old married woman who was found dead in her rented accommodation in West Delhi's Khyala area on June 25, 2026. The woman's family alleged that she was subjected to cruelty and harassment, leading to her death.
Discovery of the Body
A PCR call alerted police to the death. Officers from Khyala Police Station arrived at the scene and discovered the woman's body inside the rented room. The Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials conducted an inspection. A 'chunni', believed to have been used as a ligature material, along with other relevant exhibits, was seized for forensic examination. A ligature mark was observed on the woman's neck, and no suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Legal Proceedings and Family Allegations
The deceased, a resident of Raghubir Nagar, had been married for approximately three years. In accordance with legal procedure, the matter was reported to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Rajouri Garden. The woman's family members recorded their statements before the SDM, levelling allegations of cruelty and harassment by the in-laws. Based on these allegations, police are registering an FIR under Sections 80, 85, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Khyala Police Station.
Post-Mortem and Investigation
The body was shifted to the mortuary at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital after medico-legal formalities at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital. The post-mortem examination is awaited. According to police, further investigation into the matter is underway. The case highlights ongoing concerns about dowry harassment and domestic violence in India, with authorities taking swift action on family complaints.
