Woman hacked to death in Dharmapuri, accused arrested

A tragic incident occurred in Dharmapuri district on Friday night, where a 50-year-old woman was brutally hacked to death by a youth. The police have arrested the accused, identified as Kumaravel, 21, of Irangkattu Kottai, on charges of murdering S Lakshmi, 50, a resident of the same area.

Background of the Victim

Lakshmi, who was separated from her husband, lived alone in her house at Irangkattu Kottai. The motive behind the attack appears to be a previous animosity between the victim and the accused.

The Incident

On Friday evening, a heated argument broke out between Lakshmi and Kumaravel, escalating into violence. Around 10 pm, Kumaravel, who was under the influence of alcohol, attacked Lakshmi with a sickle, inflicting multiple severe injuries. Lakshmi succumbed to her injuries and died on the spot.

Police Response and Investigation

Upon receiving information, the Pennagaram police rushed to the crime scene. They recovered Lakshmi's body and sent it for a postmortem examination. A case was registered, and an investigation was launched. A sniffer dog was deployed to gather clues from the scene.

Confession and Arrest

During interrogations, Kumaravel confessed to the murder. He was formally booked and remanded in judicial custody. The police have stated that further investigations are ongoing.
