A 21-year-old woman was allegedly held hostage for four days, subjected to rape, and pressured to convert her religion in a village under the jurisdiction of Sajeti police station in Kanpur. The incident came to light late Sunday when the victim's father approached the police.
Missing Person Report Filed
According to the victim's father, his daughter went missing on April 28. He immediately filed a missing person report with the Sajeti police. After a frantic search, he claimed that he and his son found her held hostage at the residence of Irshad, also known as Abdullah, in Baripal. They managed to free her from captivity.
Allegations of Abduction and Assault
The woman alleged that the accused barged into her house, abducted her, and held her for four days. During this period, he allegedly raped her multiple times, pressured her to convert her religion, and threatened her with dire consequences if she resisted or reported the incident. The victim was subjected to severe mental and physical trauma.
After registering a case based on the complaint, the police sent the woman for a medical examination to gather forensic evidence. The accused, Irshad alias Abdullah, was taken into custody and is being interrogated. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the crime and any possible accomplices.
The identity of the victim has not been revealed to protect her privacy, as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault. The police have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of crimes against women and religious coercion in certain parts of the country. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
