A 19-year-old woman in Hyderabad has assisted the police in arresting her husband for causing her mother's death and subsequently lying about the incident. Based on a complaint filed by K Kavya, the Medipally police arrested K Snehit, aged 28, on May 1 on charges of culpable homicide. The accused allegedly struck his mother-in-law, K Aruna, 39, with a helmet while she was riding pillion on his motorcycle, leading to her death.
Details of the Incident
According to Medipally inspector Ch Shankaraiah, Aruna fell from the bike and sustained severe head injuries, which proved fatal. The accused, who worked at an NGO, had married Kavya last year. Snehit was reportedly unhappy with his marriage and frequently complained to Aruna about Kavya's attitude towards various issues.
Sequence of Events on April 29
On April 29, Snehit arrived at Aruna's home around noon and offered to buy her food from a nearby hotel. He then forced her to ride pillion on his bike. During the ride, the two argued again about family matters. In the heat of the argument, Snehit, who had kept the helmet on the fuel tank, picked it up and hit Aruna on the head. This caused her to lose balance, fall off the bike, and suffer critical head injuries.
Snehit later told his wife that Aruna had suffered an epileptic seizure and fallen off the bike. Aruna died on April 30 while receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Investigation and Arrest
Kavya, however, did not believe her husband's account. She verified CCTV camera footage from a house near the accident spot and realized that Snehit had struck her mother while they were riding, causing her death. The inspector noted that Snehit's intention was not to kill Aruna, but he hit her out of frustration.
