A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Bengaluru after she refused to marry her boyfriend, who had a history of criminal offenses. The incident occurred on Monday evening in the HSR Layout area, according to police sources.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as Kavya R., a software engineer, had been in a relationship with the accused, Ravi Kumar, 30, for the past two years. However, she decided to end the relationship after learning about his criminal record, which included cases of robbery and attempted murder. On Monday, Kumar confronted her near her apartment and a heated argument ensued. He then stabbed her multiple times with a knife and fled the scene. Kavya was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Police Investigation
Police have registered a case of murder and launched a manhunt for Kumar. Preliminary investigations reveal that Kumar had been arrested in 2024 for a robbery case and in 2025 for attempted murder. He was out on bail at the time of the incident. "The accused had a history of violence and was known to the local police. We are tracking his movements and expect to apprehend him soon," said a senior police officer.
Family and Community Reaction
The victim's family has alleged that they had complained to the police earlier about Kumar's harassment, but no action was taken. "We had informed the police about his threats, but they did nothing. Now our daughter is dead," said the victim's father. Local residents have expressed shock and demanded stricter action against repeat offenders.
Broader Implications
This incident has once again highlighted the issue of violence against women in intimate relationships. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, over 30% of murders of women in India are committed by intimate partners. Activists have called for better implementation of protective laws and stricter monitoring of individuals with criminal records.
