A tragic road accident on the Agra Expressway in Lucknow claimed the life of a young man on Monday morning. The fatal incident occurred when a speeding sleeper bus, travelling in the wrong direction, collided head-on with his motorcycle amidst severely reduced visibility due to dense fog.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The victim has been identified as Rohit Gautam, a 30-year-old resident of Kakori. Rohit worked as a security guard at a private medical university located in Thakurganj. According to his father, Shivratan, Rohit had left home early on Monday and was using the service lane of the Agra Expressway when the disaster struck near the Para zero point.
Eyewitness accounts describe a scene of horror. Due to the thick fog, visibility was extremely poor. Suddenly, a sleeper bus appeared, coming from the opposite direction at high speed. It smashed directly into Rohit's motorcycle. The force of the impact threw him against the bus before one of its wheels ran over him, causing instantaneous death. While passersby rushed to the spot to help, the bus driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene.
Family Protest and Police Response
The accident took place under the jurisdiction of the Para police station. After receiving an alert via UP112, police personnel reached the location. They seized the abandoned bus and sent Rohit's body for a postmortem examination.
As the news spread, grief turned into anger. Rohit's family members and local residents blocked the area, staging a three-hour-long protest. They demanded immediate action and the arrest of the accused bus driver. To manage the tense situation, police forces from Para, Dubagga, Kakori, and Mankhanganj were deployed.
Inspector Suresh Singh from Para police station intervened and assured the grieving family of prompt action. Following this assurance, the protest was called off. The police have registered an FIR against the unidentified bus driver, and a search operation is currently underway to apprehend him.
A Family's Plea for Support
The accident has left a family shattered and in financial distress. Rohit Gautam was the sole breadwinner for his family. He is survived by his elderly parents, his wife, and their two minor children. With his sudden demise, the family has lost its primary source of income.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the family has appealed to the government for financial assistance and rehabilitation to help them cope with their immense loss and secure their future.
