Minor Earthquake Strikes Mancherial District in Telangana
A 3.9-magnitude earthquake rattled Mancherial district in Telangana on Wednesday night, causing brief panic among residents and spreading tremors to neighboring areas in Maharashtra. The seismic event, classified as minor on the Richter scale, occurred at 11:49 pm on February 25, with an epicenter located approximately 109 km north-east of Karimnagar at a depth of 10 km, according to the National Centre for Seismology under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Tremors Felt Across Border Regions
Residents in parts of Sironcha and Ahiri in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district reported feeling the ground shake around midnight, leading many to evacuate their homes out of fear of potential collapse. Some individuals described utensils falling off tables and noticeable vibrations, though no casualties or property damage have been confirmed in the aftermath of the quake based on available information.
Recent Seismic Activity in the Region
This incident marks the second such event in a week for the area, following a 2.9-magnitude earthquake recorded on February 21 in the Vanasthalipuram area of Ranga Reddy district, which occurred at a depth of 5 km around 8:30 am. Additionally, Andhra Pradesh experienced a 3.5-magnitude quake on February 19 at approximately 2:30 am at a depth of 10 km.
Despite these occurrences, Telangana is generally considered to be in a safer seismic zone compared to Andhra Pradesh. Scientists from the National Geophysical Research Institute noted that a micro-earthquake measuring 1.5 on the Richter scale was reported in Gajularamaram and Kompally on February 10, with shallow depth causing low-intensity tremors to be felt.
