AAP Leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia Discharged in Excise Policy Case
In a significant legal development, a Delhi court has discharged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case. This decision has injected a wave of jubilation and relief into the party ranks, marking a stark contrast to the dismal atmosphere following the February 2025 assembly elections.
Celebrations Erupt at AAP Headquarters and Kejriwal's Residence
On Friday, AAP functionaries and workers gathered in large numbers outside Kejriwal's residence on Feroze Shah Road and at the party headquarters on Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla Lane. The scenes were vibrant and emotional, with many supporters carrying colours and flowers, symbolizing a fresh start. Groups of enthusiastic workers danced energetically to the rhythmic beats of dhols, applying colours on one another in a display of camaraderie and triumph. Security personnel were present to manage the sizable and spirited crowd, ensuring the celebrations remained orderly.
Victory Roadshow from Home to Party Office
Kejriwal's short journey from his residence to the party headquarters transformed into a triumphant victory roadshow, characterized by high intensity and charged emotions. As his car moved through the streets, it was showered with flower petals by ecstatic supporters lining the route. The former chief minister emerged through the sunroof, greeting the crowd with folded hands and acknowledging their unwavering support. The atmosphere was electric, reverberating with the powerful beats of dhols and resonant chants of "Satyamev Jayate" (truth alone triumphs).
Supporters displayed a palpable mix of relief and triumph, dancing joyfully and waving party flags as the convoy progressed. Upon reaching the headquarters, the celebrations intensified dramatically, turning the location into the central stage of festivities. Senior party functionaries warmly received Kejriwal, who first entered the party office before addressing a press conference.
Kejriwal Addresses Media, Declares Innocence
At the press conference, Kejriwal spoke at length about the excise policy case, firmly declaring that "Kejriwal was not corrupt." He was flanked by senior leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, presenting a united front. An AAP functionary expressed the collective sentiment, stating, "The discharge of our leaders in the case proved that the case was fake and hatched under a conspiracy to crush AAP. In difficult times, we remained united with party workers and fought on, emerging victorious today. We celebrate the victory of truth over a fake case and democracy over dictatorship."
AAP Plans Protest Against BJP at Jantar Mantar
Buoyed by the court's decision, AAP is now planning to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Another functionary explained, "The party aims to take this matter to every person in Delhi. We are developing extensive outreach plans to ensure people are fully aware of the truth behind this case." This move signals AAP's intent to leverage the legal victory for broader political mobilization and public awareness campaigns.
The discharge of Kejriwal and Sisodia not only marks a pivotal moment for AAP but also sets the stage for renewed political dynamics in Delhi, as the party seeks to rebuild momentum and challenge its opponents with renewed vigor.
