Ashes of Former Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Immersed in Gaya's Sacred Falgu River
The final rites for Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) stalwart and former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar were solemnly concluded on Friday with the immersion of his ashes in the revered Falgu river at Dev Ghat in Gaya, Bihar. This sacred ritual marked a poignant chapter following Pawar's tragic demise in a plane crash on January 28.
Rituals Performed by NCP Secretary in Absence of Family
NCP national secretary Rana Ranbir Singh undertook the solemn responsibility of transporting the urn containing Pawar's ashes from Mumbai to Gaya. Notably, no immediate family members of the late leader were present during the immersion ceremony. Singh presided over the proceedings, which were conducted with profound Vedic traditions.
"The ashes are being immersed in various sacred rivers across the nation as part of the final rites," Singh stated. "I was entrusted with the duty of performing the immersion in the holy Falgu river. The rituals, including the Gaya Shraddh, were meticulously carried out by acharyas from the esteemed Gayapal panda community at Dev Ghat, adhering strictly to ancient Vedic customs."
A Leader's Profound Bond with Bihar Remembered
During the ceremony, Singh reflected on Ajit Pawar's significant and enduring connection with Bihar, which extended beyond mere political affiliations. He emphasized that Pawar was deeply engaged with the state's socio-political landscape and developmental trajectory.
"The former leader shared a profound bond with Bihar," Singh remarked. "He frequently engaged in discussions concerning Bihar's political dynamics, social conditions, and pressing development issues. For the Nationalist Congress Party, he was far more than just a senior leader; he served as a guiding mentor and an inspirational figure. His sudden and untimely passing has left an indelible void, deeply saddening every member and worker within the party."
Ceremony Highlights Sacred Traditions and Political Legacy
The immersion at Dev Ghat, a site of immense spiritual significance in Hinduism, underscores the cultural and religious dimensions of the final rites for a major political figure. The choice of Gaya, renowned for its ancestral rituals, adds a layer of traditional solemnity to the event.
The ceremony not only honored the personal spiritual journey of Ajit Pawar but also served as a moment of collective mourning and reflection for his political comrades. It highlighted the cross-regional respect and influence Pawar commanded, particularly in Bihar, where his insights and mentorship were highly valued.
This event closes a ceremonial chapter for the NCP leader, whose legacy in Maharashtra and his noted engagement with Bihar's affairs continue to be remembered by colleagues and political observers alike.
