AP Home Minister Asserts Strong Stance on Women's Safety and Drug Eradication
In a firm declaration during the legislative council session on Tuesday, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha emphasized that the Andhra Pradesh government is implementing rigorous measures to combat crimes against women and eliminate drug abuse. She stated unequivocally that "no one will be spared" in cases of atrocities, underscoring the administration's commitment to justice and public safety.
Response to Concerns and Statistical Claims
Addressing issues raised by YSRCP MLC Varudu Kalyani during Question Hour, Anitha refuted allegations of rising crimes against women, asserting that incident rates have actually declined. She highlighted the government's proactive approach, including the launch of the Eagle programme, aimed at eradicating marijuana cultivation and distribution. According to her, this initiative has successfully halted ganja growth within the state, marking a significant achievement in the fight against narcotics.
Criticism of Previous Administration and Current Initiatives
Anitha accused the previous government of misleading both the public and the central authorities under the Disha initiative, alleging that during their tenure, drugs had even infiltrated school environments. She referenced the recent Madanapalle incident as unfortunate but stressed that surveillance has been enhanced through tools like the Shakti app, designed to improve monitoring and response mechanisms.
Furthermore, she detailed efforts to expedite justice in POCSO cases, with several instances resulting in punishments delivered within a three-month timeframe. "We are taking action even against those who facilitate crimes. No one will be left behind," she affirmed, reinforcing the government's comprehensive strategy.
Opposition Allegations and Procedural Matters
Earlier in the session, MLC Kalyani contended that atrocities against women and children are on the rise, citing 1,485 registered cases and claiming an average of four to five incidents occur daily. This sparked a debate on the effectiveness of current policies.
Additionally, council chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju expressed dissatisfaction with Kalyani's extended speech during Question Hour, directing officials to ensure proper audio recording of members' remarks. This directive came after concerns were raised by senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana, highlighting procedural improvements in council operations.
