RSS Chief Advocates for Strengthened Reconversion and Demographic Concerns
In a significant address at a social harmony gathering in Lucknow, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat called for the intensification of "ghar wapsi" initiatives, which refer to the reconversion of individuals to Hinduism. Bhagwat emphasized that those who return to the Hindu fold must receive comprehensive support and care from the community.
Emphasis on Organization and Vigilance
During the meeting, which saw participation from diverse religious and social organizations including Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain communities, as well as groups like the Ramakrishna Mission, Iskcon, and the Art of Living, Bhagwat highlighted the need for Hindu society to become more organized. He asserted that while there is "no threat" to the Hindu community, it is imperative to remain "vigilant" in the current social landscape.
Concerns Over Declining Hindu Population
Bhagwat expressed deep concern over what he described as a declining population of Hindus, pointing to instances of forced or inducement-based religious conversions as contributing factors. To address this demographic challenge, he urged Hindu families to consider having at least three children, framing it as a measure to bolster the community's numbers and resilience.
Stressing Social Harmony and Inclusivity
In his speech, Bhagwat underscored the critical importance of strengthening social harmony, noting that discrimination often arises in its absence. He called for unity and cooperation among all religious groups to foster a more inclusive and harmonious society, reflecting the broader theme of the meeting aimed at promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding.
The event served as a platform for Bhagwat to reiterate the RSS's stance on reconversion and demographic issues, while also advocating for a proactive and organized approach within the Hindu community to address these concerns effectively.
